Kasparov would not come to “Orbán’s Hungary”
The former chess world champion, currently one of the leading figures of the opposition, had fled from Putin to New York, out of the fear of getting murdered, writes 24.hu, based on an interview of hvg.hu. Even though he exiled himself to the States, they are trying to discredit him in the television at home.
Therefore, Garry Kasparov would not be glad to visit places being on friendly terms with Vladimir Putin. Including Hungary. He also said that, if Putin fails, his European followers (mentioning the Hungarian PM, Viktor Orbán and French right-wing leader, Marine Le Pen) would also feel the impact of such an event.
According to Kasparov, the tension is huge in the country, and that is why Putin’s Russia seeks for outer enemies and wars. But this is also why the transition after Putin would not be peaceful, as he would hold on to his power as long as he can. Kasparov thinks that Putin’s regime will fail through street protests and the elimination of the elite.
He claims that the West’s forgiving politics related to Putin are not good, and it should show some strength instead. This, however, is unlikely to happen, partly because there are many lobbyists that break the unions. Also, the murder of Boris Nyemcov was seen as a message. Since then only foreign opposition remained; there is no opposition inside Russia anymore.
Kasparov would give Crimea back to Ukraine, South Ossetia and Abkhazia to Georgia, and give new grounds to Russia, ceasing the influence of KGB, for he says, the new Russia cannot be established on the foundations of the tsar past. Furthermore, he highlighted that they are also responsible for their acts in foreign lands, not only in the country.
He also talked about chess, as a sport; he thinks that FIDE functions as a money laundry, so he rather cares for the talented people through his foundation. He says, today’s chess players are incomparable with his contemporaries because the requirements and the circumstances became different. Though, he is fine with the chess playing computers, for they are the signs of progress.
