Three Hungarian cities have made it to a list of the most popular holiday destinations, femina.hu reports. The list was compiled by a website that specialises in finding the ideal accommodation for tourists.
Trivago.com, the world’s largest hotel search compares 1 million different accommodations from more than 250 booking websites each day. Their goal is to provide great accommodations for a reasonable cost, using an algorithm that considers not only hotel prices but guests’ opinions as well.
Trivago’s Best Value Index is a list of 100 destinations that are not only affordable but greatly popular as well. The list is led by Fenghuang, a Chinese city, and it also contains three Hungarian cities.
The highest ranking Hungarian city on the list is Pécs, at 8th place. The city was named the European Capital of Culture in 2010, and it is famous for its rich heritage of historical sites and monuments, including the 11th century Cathedral (pictured on the left), the Barbakán Tower and the early Christian necropolis, which became an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. The city is also abundant with the remnants of the Turkish occupation, such as the mosque of Pasha Quasim on Széchenyi Square (pictured above), or the ruins of the baths of Pasha Memi.
