Two Hungarian cities were consumed by darkness during Earth Hour – PHOTOS
Budapest switched off city flood lights for an hour on Saturday evening, joining the global Earth Hour initiative, MTI reported.
As a part of the WWF initiative, all flood lights in the city were turned off between 8.30pm and 9.30pm.
Climate change is making its presence felt more and more in the capital, with regular heat records, violent storms and sudden downpours, Karácsony said on Facebook.
“Right now the most important thing is for us to come together and defeat the pandemic, but once it’s behind us, the dangers of climate change will remain,” he said.
“The problems we face today mustn’t lead us to forget about the challenges of tomorrow,” Karácsony said. “Don’t forget: when we protect our planet, we protect each other.”
