Court rules Mayor Karácsony must issue apology to Orbán’s son-in-law – UPDATE
A court has ruled that Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony must issue an apology to István Tiborcz, Viktor Orbán’s son-in-law, for branding a property tax “the Tiborcz tax”.
Besides a public apology, Karacsony will also have to pay a fine of 500,000 forints (EUR 1,400) to Tiborcz, according to the binding ruling.
Tiborcz sued Karácsony after the mayor called a planned local property tax “the Tiborcz tax” during the local election campaign in 2018, Perfect Partner Communication said in a press release.
The appeal court said Karácsony had exploited Tiborcz’s name in the hope of gaining political advantage during the campaign by exploiting the “public’s supposed negative perception” of the entrepreneur.
The lawsuit was based an earlier court ruling that Tiborcz’s family ties to the prime minister did not mean he could be treated as a public figure.

UPDATE
Karácsony said in response on Facebook that “the prime minister’s son-in-law did not manage to tell the truth even in a case involving his own name”.
“After losing at court in a first ruling, he has achieved a tie as a result of the second ruling, but we will carry on and now preparing to file an appeal to the supreme court Kúria,” he added.
“And, by the way, István Tiborcz is a public figure even according to the second ruling,” he said.

Not surprising since Orban controls the courts too.
Perhaps Comrade Commissar Karácsony should just say : “To Mr. István Tiborz, I am velly solly”.
Hang on a second, he has already insulted the Chinese Government with recent comments at a public rally in Budapest and now he would also be insulting the Japanese Government !
So much for the ‘political nouse’ of this Prime Ministerial aspirant.
He’d be much better off if he just tended wild bees in those Budapest nature areas he has created following the expensive advice of over 40 paid ‘experts’ …..
Truth Hurts.
Charles Dickens wrote in Oliver Twist which over centuries has been proven absolutely correct – “that the law is an ass – an idiot”.
People should not be allowed to debase other people. Karacsony, a communist, should know better. It is OK to call someone stupid, idiot, etc.. it is different from implying fraud, cheating, that could affect business.
The court made the right decision. In the US, on the basis of a fake dossier, 40+ million spent and two years of the Congress was wasted.
It should be ensured that Karacsony pays the fine from his own pocket, instead of using tax payers money.
“Norbert” – the truth does hurt, especially when it bites an offending individual on his / her / its arse.
Karácsony – a Communist (like yourself) if there ever was one – has just received an expensive lesson in ‘diplomacy’.
By the way, you just LOVE trying to fool everyone by quoting great writers when you can’t ever submit something which doesn’t ramble on …. and on ….. and on.
It obviously reflects your inferior intellect and very limited education.
Perhaps you should enrol at an English-speaking primary school to obtain lessons in basic use of the language (including grammar, etc.).
Just a thought, old boy !
Bet a billion forints that Karácsony NEVER made the recent comments on Facebook (in English) that have been attributed to him !
He can’t even answer the simplest question in English posed to him by reporters (just rubs his chin whilst mumbling in Hungarian to his ‘helper’ : “What am I supposed to say ?”).
What a TOTALLY PATHETIC candidate for Prime Minister of Hungary !
He should go back to university and finish what he started many years ago – but he hasn’t got the brains for even obtaining a PhD.
Such a bad loser ……wonder how he’ll cope when the ‘sausage coalition’ is trounced by Fidesz – KDNP at next year’s Hungarian general election ?
Maybe he can scrounge a job directing traffic around Budapest ………
