Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó on Thursday delivered a batch of 100,000 Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines that Hungary is lending to the Czech Republic to Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis.
Answering a question from MTI at his joint press conference with Babis, Szijjártó said criticisms of Hungary’s decision to organise full-stadium Euro 2020 matches had been “politically motivated”. Szijjártó said the warnings that full-stadium matches could lead to a new wave of the pandemic had come from those whose countries had a low vaccination rate.
The minister said he was convinced that both the Hungarian and international fans had enjoyed their time at the matches, adding that
concerns over the safety of the matches had proven unfounded.
We reported HERE that even the Slovak Ministry of Health said two weeks earlier that the full-stadium matches in Hungary could have serious epidemiological consequences. They feared then that the Hungarian EURO2020 matches could spread the Indian variant in the region.
Meanwhile,
the Hungarian government and the Unified Hungarian Jewish Congregation (EMIH) provided 10 million forints (EUR 28,490) in humanitarian aid for persecuted Jews in Yemen
caught up in the civil war there, the Prime Minister’s office said on Thursday.
The aid, with 5 million forints provided by the State Secretariat in charge of the Hungary Helps humanitarian programme and matched by EMIH, is aimed at helping the local Jewish community remain in their homeland and preserve their religious heritage, the PM’s office said in a statement.
