Hungarian success on the 2021 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships -UPDATED

Hungary began its quest for a fourth consecutive women’s K4 canoe sprint world title with an impressive first round win at the ICF world championships in Denmark on Friday.

Hungary has won eight of the past nine world titles, and comes to Denmark with three of the crew members who won gold at the Tokyo Olympics last month reports Canoeicf.

Anna Karasz, who was a member of the winning crew in 2014 and 2018 and who won gold in Tokyo, said the small change should not change the rhythm of the boat, although preparation time for Copenhagen has been limited.

“Since Tokyo we’ve just had two sessions with the girls, we didn’t have much opportunity to train together,” Karasz said. “But we found the harmony with the girls, we didn’t have a big change. I don’t feel there is a big difference.

The Hungarian women’s K4 500 crew, with just one change to the line-up who won Olympic gold in Tokyo, posted the fastest heat time ahead of Olympic silver medalists, Belarus said Canoeicf.

In total Hungary has received two gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals placing the country on the second place of the Medal table so far.

One of the gold winners is Alida Dóra Gazsó, who won the K-1 1000 metres race just over 3 minutes and 56 seconds, beating Lizzie Broughton to first place with over three seconds.

The other Hungarian gold came from the K-2 500 metres competition where the duo of Danuta Kozák and Tamara Csipes managed to grab the win from the Belarus duo.

UPDATE:

The Hungarian competitors have managed to grab four more gold, five more silver and two more bronze medals. This means that Hungary has taken the 1st place in the medal table on the 2021 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Coppenhagen.

• Balázs Adolf received gold in C-1 5,000 metres with 23:08.62
• Bálint Noé received gold in K-1 5,000 metres with 20:02.96
• Emese Kőhalmi won the women’s K-1 5,000 metres with 22:57.48
• In the mixed category Anna Lucz and Kolos Csizmadia won the K-2 200 metres in 33.94
