Hungarian handmade delicacy wins prestigious gastronomic award

The award shows that quality chocolate can be found in Hungary as well.

The Great Taste Awards is often called the Oscars of gastronomy. The ZAX chocolate shop earned two stars for its forest fruits bonbons, and the Zsutella hazelnut cream was also awarded, which is an exceptional achievement in Central Europe, writes Origo.

The chocolates and other products are truly of premium quality, and their price matches it. ZAX sells the most expensive bonbons in the entire country.

The 100-piece collection called Black Edition costs 126.64 euros (HUF 45,500), and the total weight of a box is 900 grams. The mini-collection, which only has two pieces of bonbons, costs no less than 3.87 euros.

β€œOur principle is that premium products, such as ZAX, can only be prepared prom outstanding ingredients. So, we travelled the countries of the world and picked the most outstanding producers to get the sweet base from them. Cocoa beans arrive from South America and Africa, vanilla from Madagascar, hazelnut from Piemont, and almonds from California or the Mediterranean,” writes their official website.

Zsuzsa Varga started making chocolates as a hobby, which became a love that she turned into a business. She is in charge of making the award-winning bonbons, and her husband helps with running the business.

Zsuzsa learned from the best in the profession and follows the trends on a daily basis to make the best products, which won competitions.

In 2020, they won a silver for their passion fruit bonbon at the Academy of Chocolate Awards, followed by success at the International Chocolate Awards, where they won a bronze for the salted caramel and sour cherry ganache bonbon at the Eastern European finals.

Ferenc Varga said that they would like to provide an experience with their products, and the visual experience is very important for all foods, in addition to the taste. That is why aesthetic packaging is very important for them.

ZAX also takes orders from their customers, who can request what delicacy they would like to be made for them. They can choose the taste, colour, and shape of the product. This is a great branding idea, of course, as most of the customers buy the bonbons for special occasions as a gift. β€œIf someone tastes this chocolate, they will remember from whom they received it, it is that special and tasty,” said Ferenc Varga.
