Mesmerising Gellért hotel on the Buda side of the Danube to close soon
The hotel will be open until 1 December. The hotel is a protected monument, and it is famous for its Art Nouveau style. The iconic building of Budapest was built in 1918.
The hotel will be renovated and turned into a five-star luxury accommodation by Indotek Group. The company made a deal with Danubius back in 2019 about buying the real estate. Indotek Group then said that they wanted to fully reconstruct the hotel building, writes portfolio.hu.
Despite the renovations, the owner wants to keep the old look of the hotel’s exterior. Despite this, the property will change in great ways, becoming a luxurious accommodation.
The original agreement stated that Danubius Hotels would operate Gellért Hotel in the upcoming years, during the reconstruction and planning stages, until the authorisation process is completed. These stages have come to an end.

Hotel and spa
The hotel will be closed, while the spa can stay open until March 2022.
Booking rooms for a date after December 1 is not possible. Guests who have booked an accommodation will be hosted in other buildings that are the property of Danubius Hotels. The spa will not be closed like the hotel. According to spabook.net, the latter is the property of Budapest Hévizei és Gyógyfürdői Zrt., a municipal company managing the baths of Budapest.
Various attractions await the public before the building is closed. Many monuments can also be visited close to the hotel.
The hotel with its 103-year-old past will host retro dinners, walks in the building, and light painting. These programs would definitely be worth a visit.
The hotel has many close tourist spots as well. Gellért Söröző & Brasserie welcomes guests interested in gastronomy. In the summer of 2021, they welcomed visitors to a beer festival called Serfőző Biergarten. At the event, besides beer, dishes made with beer and other amazing food was prepared, writes spabook.net.

If you are planning a visit to Budapest, there is no need to worry about the closed hotel. On the Buda side of the Hungarian capital, many monuments will catch your attention. Overlooking the Danube, a large cross and a statue of St. Stephen mark the location of the rock chapel.
On top of Gellért Hill, you will find the Citadelle, another famous monument of Budapest. You can also see the Statue of Liberty overlooking the city. NEVER – NEVER – NEVER – should it by the Government or whoever – ALLOW – the Facade of this Gellert Hotel – CHANGED.
Internally – creative imagination, but the retainement of the era it was built – must be of PARAMOUNT Importance.
Gut parts of its internal to “elevate” it to the “needs” of the 21st century and Future – BUT – still RETAIN – its Heart & Soul – to large degrees – and – NEVER – destroy its FACE – that millions of people over distant times – century plus – who have loved and adored this Historic place – its drawing of tourist – from all around the World – to our Capital City – Budapest, Hungary.
Historic – it is.
Unique it is – with what its overall Functionality – consists.
In its RENOVATION – never the external we know as Citizens of Hungary – never shall she be re-constructed to loose that “face” that we know and have admired respected for distant time – the “famed” – Gellert Hotel.
This is Judith Pialek, Austria. I am an original “prehistoric person”, even that i am only 58 years old.
I have the privilege, to live in the village, where Otto of Habsburg was born (Reichenau/Payerach/Rax, i am living close to the place. where Queen Elisabeth = SISI has been living in 1873 during the world exhibition, to get off the crowd of people. She has been living in the villa of mr. Warrens, at this time, this is about 1 km away from my home. I am a person, who surely has lived in the habsgurgian history in former times – and i have to say, i love this periode of Austrian-Hungary unit of this historic time.
Can`t you see, that the word: “habsburgian history” – even is part of the word: “hungarian history”?
HABSBURGIAN / HISTORY
HUNGARIAN / HISTORY
the both have the same letters in it. ! this is some kind of : we are close!!!
LET HISTORY BE ALIVE! lET HISTORY BE IN BUILDINGS, THAT HAVE SO MUCH OF KINDNESS, of love and history, that can not be found in this tristess of buildings at this NEW TIME, AS IT IS CALLED, BUT IT WILL NEVER EVER HAVE THIS BEAUTY AS IN FORMER TIMES.
Please let it live – the beauty of the original Gellers Hotel in Budapest – and me and my family will be one of the first guests in this hotel, close to the moment, it will be reopened in 2022?

“Sissi” and the hungarian history is part of my life, my interests and my bibliothek. Even my life ist sometimes close to Sisis life – i have been part of the film to come = “corsage” = a film to come about Sisi in her life 40ies.
this part of history, that is on plan to get an revival IS TO BE SAVED FOR THE FUTUR!!!!!
What else – as a copy of live in its best way – can leave us in a way of dreams about having part of it – if we had the possibility to be at this time.
And – i can make you sure – i would have had to be. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
