Could cars be banned from Budapest’s party district?

The Erzsébetváros district of Budapest would ban cars from its territory. The local government is looking into how this could be realised. They are also testing what impact it would have on other residents of the district and the city. The regulation would take effect for motorists from 1 July 2022 at the earliest.

One of the districts of the Hungarian capital would introduce a car ban. In the Erzsébetváros district of Budapest, the local government is investigating the possibility of banning cars with the help of local people and experts. According to the decision of the Board of Representatives, the extended trial period of traffic calming will end on June 30, 2022, writes index.hu.

Inner-Erzsébetváros could become a protected area.

Péter Nidermüller, the mayor of the district, told Infostart about the matter. The spokesman for the Democratic Coalition said the car ban would run from Klauzál Square to Charles Boulevard. However, the exact borders of the area may still change.

Only residents of the neighbourhood and suppliers of goods, shops, and restaurants in the area may enter the protected zone.
