The lower embankment of the Danube in Budapest between Parliament and Margaret Bridge has been made more pedestrian-friendly, with a new walkway completed two weeks ahead of schedule, the Budapest transport centre BKK said on Friday.
Â
The area has also been made greener, with 35 saplings planted between the road and the Danube. Thanks to the revamp, pedestrians will be able to more conveniently enjoy views of the world heritage site, BKK said.
Â
The area will reopen to pedestrians on Monday
Â
Â
but cars will not be allowed to return for the time being, it added.
Â
Planning for the continuation of the lower embankment revamp project is under way, BKK said.

Very beautiful. I used to take long walks in Budapest for no particular reason. I still enjoy my walks on the quiet streets of our small town. A couple of time I lost my balance and fell down. Strangers immediately stopped and offered to help. Fortunately, I was OK and continued my walk. It made me feel safe and grateful.
We lived in nice, safe towns in America also and we were grateful for the safety and comfort of small town America.
Beautiful work quality by ALL.
The re-design of this area of our glorious embankment, especially for safer pedestrian usage, credit to ALL who had the “vision” to use this glorious piece of the Danube embakement, that offers much to all Hungarians and visitors to our magnificent Capital – Budapest, Hungary.
Question – being a “Greeney” – this past week, totally cut down large tree at our tram stop on tram line 2 – Vigado.
Stump of tree is still in the ground.
We TRUST – not noticing it was “Going to God” or diseased, that it will – PLEASE – be re-placed as the area looks bare and lonely – without a tree at this Glorious location, along our embankment.
Istvan – keep that walking up with your loved dog.
Great Cardiovascular exercise – at our age.///

Thank you Norbert. I must admit that I am a bit envious of you being able to enjoy the sites of Budapest. I am too fragile to do that any more. Have a nice day and enjoy for both of us.
