Hungarian Rubik’s Cube reinvented by Casio in brand-new watch – PHOTOS, VIDEO
Casio is launching a limited-edition Rubik’s Cube-inspired watch. The Japanese watch manufacturer is dressing up one of their popular models in the colours of the Hungarian invention.
The Rubik’s Cube is a 3D combination puzzle invented in 1974 by Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture Ernő Rubik. His career started in Budapest, and he has become known all over the world by now. This time, Casio, a well-known brand, will pay homage to the Hungarian invention.
Rubik watches
Fans of the well-known game will soon be able to buy the popular G-Shock watch manufactured by the Japanese Casio in the colours of the Rubik’s Cube. The company created the watch in cooperation with the official Rubik’s Cube company, Casio writes in a statement sent to Forbes.hu.
The model called G-Shock has been on the market since 1983. It is an extremely popular model, and the cooperation between the two companies with a long history is unfolding before our eyes,” emphasised Sándor Nagy, Casio’s product manager.
More than 450 million Rubik’s Cubes have been sold up to now
Ernő Rubik presented the coloured cube named after him 48 years ago, in 1974, and its popularity has been virtually unbroken ever since. Rubik’s Cube has sold over 450 million cubes to date in the world, making it one of the most sought-after games. The enthusiasm for the coloured cube is well-reflected in the fact that records are being broken year after year regarding how quickly you can solve the cube.

2-in-1 watch
The special, limited-edition watch features an octagonal 48.5 × 45.4 × 11.8 millimetre watch case that uses Casio’s new carbon fibre-reinforced technology. As a result, the model is highly shockproof, as well as water-resistant up to pressure levels of 20 bar, says piacesprofit.hu.
Thanks to the interchangeable watch bezel, customers get a real 2-in-1 watch: they can use the watch in black or white.
The GAE-2100RC-1A watch will be available globally from February, but there is no information on domestic sales yet.
