Slovak Government Spokesperson: Putin and Orbán may divide Slovakia’s borders
Boris Kollár, Slovak Government Spokesperson, fears that Vladimir Putin and Viktor Orbán will redraw Slovakia’s borders. While in the Czech Republic, the following question arose in connection with the Hungarian election: will the V4 continue its cooperation in the region? The conflict between the Hungarian Government and other countries in connection with the Russia-Ukraine war seems to escalate further.
Slovak Government Spokesperson is concerned
In a television debate on Sunday at noon, Boris Kollár, Slovak Government Spokesperson, expressed his concerns. According to Kollár
Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán and Russian President Putin may want to break up Slovakia.
Russian aggression could disrupt peace in the EU. According to the Slovak Government Spokesperson, Orbán could take advantage of this. In addition, Kollár fears the threatening pieces of information coming from Hungary.
“They talk about Greater Hungary, they buy real estate from us, they hand out passports! This is not a joke,”
said Kollár angrily. The Hungarian Government had previously purchased real estate in Kosice (Kassa), about which the Slovak leadership only learned from the press. As a result of the Slovak protest, Hungary has abandoned its takeover plans, writes index.hu.

Will the V4 cooperation end?
In the Czech Republic, politicians and experts have questioned whether the Hungarian elections could put an end to V4 cooperation since Hungary and the other countries in the region have a completely different approach toward the Ukrainian war. Jan Lipavský, Czech Foreign Minister, believes that
the Hungarian Government must make it clear whether they side with NATO/EU or Russia.
According to the expert, the Hungarian leadership is taking ambiguous steps. Fidesz votes for the sanctions against Russia yet stays away from the war conflict and avoids making a definite statement. Due to that behaviour, many people believe that the Hungarian Government’s communication may change after the elections, writes napi.hu.
The mission of the Visegrád 4, which includes the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia, is to work together in a number of fields of common interest within the all-European integration. According to political scientist Pavlína Janebová, the V4 does benefit each country individually, therefore, it would be no use to end it. However, when it comes to significant issues the cooperation does not seem to be fruitful.

NO, it will not be the above-mentioned persons. It probably will be the UN General Assembly as they have good practice in dividing countries.
eg: 1947 November 29!! ??
Russia just follows an example?
Leave Orban out of it, he is doing more than a lot of other nations.
Cornelia – you comment made with Blindness.
The massive pressures that are being applied to Hungary just not the European Union, NATO, Great Britain and the United States of America – but Globally, a country Hungary that its Economy is in a SHAMBLES – what next ?
We all need to look at the BIG picture – and in doing that understand and accept, that Hungary wedged in relationships with Russia & China – is growing rapidly, being isolated from assistance,respect of the important “movers & shakers” – all supported the Ukraine under the attack of war by Russia.
Hungary – its isolation – disappearing friendships left to look Abandoned – what next ?
Hungary – the world still waits for an answer – what side are you on in this Russian war waged against the Ukraine ?
Hungary – darker and deeper days and months possible years ahead under the Political ideas and philosophy – of Fidesz – undr the Prime Minister and Party Leader – Victor Orban.
REMEMBER – those who voted for the return to office at the National Elections the Fidesz Party – under Victor Orban – that you take FULL ownership and Reponsibility – for the state Hungary is factually in at this time, and the DEEPENING of its MESS – in time to come.
Austria also remained neutral. Why is Zelensky not disparaging them? Zelensky probably picks on Hungary at Biden’s instigation. Both leaders should be ignored.
Soon to be V3 and H1.
Maybe it’s high time the V4 became the V3.
As it is, the most vocal of the V4 members was PM Orban, and he was “weaponising” the V4 against the EU. No matter how I look at, at every juncture, it seems very much like PM Orban just wants to tear the EU apart (or make it much less cohesive) – despite the fact that the EU has been “feeding Hungary” with huge amounts of € (that seems to “stray” away from the purpose for they were/are intended).
…Maybe I’m wrong, but no matter which angle I look at it, that’s how I see it.
@mariavontheresa
Your rhetoric is repetitive and boring. Austria’s Chancellor didn’t name Mr Zelensky as an enemy as Orbán did in his victory speech. Very poor taste.
Finland, Sweden, Georgia, Moldova, four countries also wishing to join NATO. Is that Mr Biden’s fault too…..

@Cornelia, silly conspiracy theories abound in the media, as do silly followers / believers of them.
@Nin, you are correct. By the way, ‘marievontheresa’ is another Canadian resident like ‘Edward’. Odd, don’t you think?
@Skysaw,
No, by now nothing is odd to me., admittedly, it is interesting that more Canadians appear to bother to comment than those (ex-pats) living in, say Bp, although, my woman’s intuition tells me that there are a couple from Slovakia, and some definitely from the U.K., but I could be wrong.
@Cornelia, thank you. When I have a spare 86 minutes, I WILL look at the said video lecture, because I prefer not make comments about topics that I’m unfamiliar with.
@Nin, what is interesting to me is that the few Canadians (same goes for US based people) who bother to comment usually have extreme views and don’t really understand us in Hungary, nor how most Hungarians are pro EU despite what the government says and does. The ex pats that live here (a regular commentator here is Australian but most are from EU countries or a semi ex EU situation as in the UK) at least live here! Not several thousands of miles away with no day to day understanding of how things are or are not in Hungary. One has to live in a country to understand the dynamics rather than harbouring a distant memory or worse still, claiming to be in the know because a deceased relative was Hungarian. It is the latter which annoys me most about a few prolific commentators – not you.
@Skysaw,
We’ve strayed from the topic, and this is beginning to become a two-way conversation, my apologies.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, or to present their point of view. We must all TRY to be careful not interpret people’s opinions as a statement of fact.
Unfortunately, some of the public tends to believe the extreme, or negative, views of people to be closer to the truth than not. 🙁 It is these minority extreme views that tend to dominate.
I certainly agree that the majority of Magyars are pro-EU, and I hope that Pm Orbán will mellow and stop biting the hand that feeds it because those Magyars who are pro-EU will, in time, wake up and see the reality. Pity, the opposition coalition didn’t use that fact to their advantage. Come to think of it, even if they did, wide and extensive media coverage is needed to win any election, and we know who controls the media in Hungary.
You are right, I have been all too prolific (recently), and it’s time I spent less time here, even my big brother admonished me for this.
@Nin and @Skysaw
Believe me when I say the comments from the pair of you are like a breath of fresh air. 🙂
Putin was the only leader to congratulate friend Orban on his election victory. Need anything more be said?
@Anonymous,
From my part, thank you, but it must have been my Le Printemps edp that you got a whiff of. 😀 :DD – In these times, we need some good humour to bolster our defences against depression.
To the best of my knowledge, Pm. Orban is “chummy” with Alexander Lukashenko (aka, “Europe’s last dictator”), Xi Jinping, Pres. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, populist (but former far-right) Pres. Aleksander Vučić (a pro-Russia ally), former Israel Pm. Netanyahu, far-right French Presidential candidate Marine Le Pen, far-right Dutch politician Geert Wilders, Pres. Jair Bolsonaro, Pres. Nicolas Madura and some other illiberal and/or authoritarian politicians, surely some of those would have taken the opportunity to congratulate Pm. Orban on his victory.
Ps. Incidentally, does anybody still remember that Pres. Aleksander Vučić served as Minister of Information under Slobodan Milošević (aka the “the butcher of Serbia”)?
P.p.s.
@Td, Sorry 🙁 I’ll zip my lip from now on.
No more negative comments about PmO., 75 p.c. of the voters love him.
