In total, 6,045 people crossed the Hungarian border directly from Ukraine on Wednesday, while another 4,694 Ukrainian refugees arrived through Romania, the national police headquarters reported.
According to their website, updated on Thursday, the police issued temporary residence permits valid for 30 days to 630 people. Holders of such permits must contact a local immigration office near their place of residence within 30 days to apply for permanent documents.
Budapest police received 241 refugees, among which 115 are children, by train, said the municipal police website.
Refugees arriving by special train services at Kőbánya Felső Railway Station, in East Budapest, were taken by bus to the BOK sports and events centre which serves as a humanitarian transit point.
Since the start of Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, more than 600 thousand Ukrainian refugees have crossed the Hungarian border – Péter Szijjártó, Hungary’s foreign minister said on Tuesday.
