Please note that metroline M3 is in service only between the section of Újpest-központ and Göncz Árpád városközpont every day from 18 June (Saturday) until the middle of August, while between Göncz Árpád városközpont and Kőbánya-Kispest the replacement bus M3 is in service. There is even a replacement bus M3A running on weekdays between Göncz Árpád városközpont and Határ út.
There are 100 articulated, low-floor, air-conditioned replacement buses in service, running quite frequently, their scheduled headways during peak hours are less than one minute.
Please note that as the replacement buses running on an extended route to South Pest serve also Nagyvárad tér, the station replacement bus M30 is out of service during the above-written period. Hence, the city centre from the surrounding area of Nagyvárad tér is available directly by the replacement bus running between Göncz Árpád városközpont and Kőbánya-Kispest.
BKK would like to kindly recommend that also during this phase of the reconstruction works passengers take tramlines 1 and 1M in operation between Göncz Árpád városközpont and Népliget. Please note that both in the Northern and Southern city parts, the operation of alternative lines remains unchanged.
Between 18 June and the middle of August, also the passage to be found at Deák Ferenc tér of metroline M1 is reconstructed, thus that station of metroline M1 is accessible from the direction of Erzsébet tér.
Due to the reconstruction works, the customer service center to be found at Népliget is closed. BKK recommends that customers purchase mobile tickets and different passes available also in the BudapestGO app. The nearest customer service centres to Népliget are to be found at Deák Ferenc tér and Kőbánya-Kispest. Please find BKK’s other sales points and vendors at BKK’s Sales Point Finder.
Road-related information
To provide smooth operation for replacement buses, in addition to the already-designated bus lanes – the former bus lanes are designated again on Üllői út between Nagyvárad tér and Határ út, thus motorists have to prepare for a changed transport service. For the period of the metro replacement extended to the Southern part, Vak Bottyán utca to be found in the Kispest district is closed to car traffic between Határ út and Lehel utca, where only replacement buses are authorised to enter, except for destination traffic with a permit.
State-of-the-art replacement buses in operation
Metroline M3 is Hungary’s busiest line, whose reconstruction has recently become required and urgent. However each reconstruction brings about some inconvenience, this reconstruction results in a positive impact on the transport of the whole territory of Budapest. After the reconstructions realised by the investment of Budapest Transport Privately Held Corporation (BKV),
Budapest’s passengers will be able to travel on a renovated, fully-accessible line, which makes Budapest more liveable.
During the reconstruction works, high priority is given to accessibility, to help disabled persons get around in the city, therefore tactile walking surface indicators make the trips of visually-impaired persons easier and each and every station becomes accessible for physically-impaired persons.
BKK pays particular attention to providing smooth and convenient service also during the reconstruction works, thus the company operates vehicles of the highest possible quality to Budapest’s passengers. The over 100 state-of-the-art, articulated replacement buses replacing metroline M3 depart quite frequently, with scheduled headways of less than one minute. The vehicles are accessible and are equipped with air-conditioning.
BKK would like to kindly ask customers and motorists alike to be patient and understanding in relation to the
reconstruction works in progress until the spring of 2023.

Disgraceful, certainly Disappointed, being a predominant user, of the over-all excellent Public System of Transport in Budapest.
It has BEEN, continues to be a MASSIVE “broadsheet” renovation of this much “Maligned” metro line in Budapest.
Was it COMMUNICATED to the general public from the outset of this M3 line Renovation, we would be without it FULLY operational for this longtivity of time ?
We know there has been contructual matters of disagreement but why – is it taking an extensive longer period of time, to be operating as a FULL line Service ?
When is it EXPECTED – 2023 / 2024 – to AGAIN be Fully operational ?
Clarification – communicated to Citizens – the expected time/date – when we and tourists, visitors to Budapest, can look forward to, the full operation of Metro 3.
