Greatest ever Hungarian exhibition will open in Berlin – PHOTOS

Berlin has always inspired Hungarian artists who visited the German capital. Now, for the first time in decades, a huge Hungarian exhibition will take place in the city.
German-Hungarian joint exhibition
„Magyar Modern. Ungarische Kunst in Berlin 1910–1933” is name of the exhibition. As Telex.hu reports, the Hungarian National Gallery and the Berlinische Galerie are organizing the joint event. The exhibition’s two curators are Dr. Ralf Burmeister, an art historian at the Berlinische Galerie, and Dr. András Zwickl, an art historian at the Painting Department of the Museum of Fine Arts. In addition, the exhibition is organized in cooperation with the Collegium Hungaricum in Berlin. They will also organize most of the accompanying programs.

Hungarian artists in Berlin
From the second half of the 19th century, the gates of Europe opened to Hungarian artists. At first, they primarily went to Munich to get familiar with the latest trends. Then from the 20th century, they went to Paris, Berlin and Rome. In the 1920s, Berlin was considered the cultural center of Europe. Artists, life artists and bohemian adventurers from all over the world visited the German capital. The exhibition presents works by Hungarian artists who once lived in Berlin or had exhibitions there. The paintings were made in the German capital, were featured in one of the city’s exhibitions or are otherwise connected to Berlin.
