Here is how Hungarian Red Cross helps Ukrainians
The Hungarian Red Cross has provided assistance to 280,000 people coming from Ukraine and staying in the country over the past six months, the organisation said on Wednesday.
Members and volunteers of its rapid response unit, H-HERO, have provided care to 2,074 people in the border region since the outbreak of war in February, it said in a statement. Its Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county chapter has so far supplied more than 300 tonnes of aid worth 270 million forints (EUR 657,000) to its Ukrainian partner organisation in Transcarpathia, it said.
The organisation operates facilities to provide long-term shelter to 30-130 people in eight localities, namely Budapest, Dunaújváros, Hódmezővásárhely, Likocs, Makó, Miskolc, Salgótraján and Szeged.
Over 16,000 refugees arrive from Ukraine on Tuesday
Fully 7,467 people crossed into Hungary directly from Ukraine on Tuesday, while another 8,554 from Ukraine crossed from Romania, the national police headquarters (ORFK) said. Police issued temporary residence permits valid for thirty days to 370 people, ORFK told MTI on Wednesday.
Holders of such permits must contact a local immigration office near their place of residence within thirty days to apply for permanent documents, it added. Budapest received 20 people, seven children among them, by train, ORFK said.
