Hungarian winery becomes the BEST in Europe
It is a well-known fact that Hungary produces one of the best wines in the world. However, a Hungarian winery has been chosen as the best in Europe, so this is now official. During the second Golden Vines Awards, the hundreds of years old Szepsy winery received the award. Senior István Szepsy became part of the Golden Vine Hall of Fame.
The award is considered one of the most important among professionals. During the competition, 943 experts from 106 countries taste wines for five months and then vote. In the report of Diningguide.hu István Szepsy Junior said that this was the first time when a Hungarian brand was competing against internationally recognised brands. They did not just compete for the first time, but they also won, which is an incredible achievement. Basically, the whole wine industry is involved in the competition. Another interesting fact is that in the complete list of awards only one name appeared more than once and it was Szepsy.
Szepsy Winery
The Szepsy Winergy was most likely nominated because of the wines that were present in London. The Hall of Fame award is the most important among all the others and from a branding perspective, there is nothing that can be better. This award put the name of Szepsy and Tokaj on the map of the world. The award is given to a wine that can bring something new to the table. It is a huge achievement that the Szepsy family was able to innovate in such ancient art as winemaking. Now the brand will be known as one of the best in the whole world.
Seems like the hard work has finally paid off. Although, for the Szepsys this is not the end, but a new beginning. From now on, they will be producing wine for a much more demanding market that requires even more care and attention. The Szepsy family had been producing wine in Tokay since the 1500s. This means that they have been producing wine in the region since Aszú wine had been produced there. The history of the wine and the family is inseparable from each other.
Senior István Szepsy was already one of the most important figures in Hungarian wine production. Two years ago he received the lifetime achievement award from the Hungarian Wine Academy according to 24.hu. In winemaking, quality is much more important than quantity. During the Soviet era, mass production was the goal but the more you produce the worse the quality gets. Also the older the vine, the better its quality will be, but they also produce less. This is why the Szepsy family decided to get rid of most of the sprouts one day so that the quality could become infinitely better.
