Hundreds of post offices and administration offices to close in Hungary
The Hungarian Postal Services are to temporarily close 366 of their post offices due to the soaring energy and utility prices. Today they published the list of those offices, which you may find in our article below. Furthermore, several administration offices will close, making life more difficult for Hungarians and foreigners.
Postal services are to be temporarily interrupted in 366 postal offices in 210 localities from 12 November. Currently, there are 2,569 post offices in Hungary, but the law prescribes the necessity of 1,600. After the closure of the 366 offices, there will remain more than 2,200, and the measure will not concern deliveries. The energy crisis caused a HUF 20 billion (EUR 48.5m) extra expenditure, so they needed to act quickly. They are now closing offices where traffic was not high to save money.
However, the decision concerns 740 employees, who the company will send to other post offices, and nobody will be dismissed, the Hungarian Postal Services promised. “That is especially true for the Budapest staff”, Csilla Simon, the acting director, told index.hu.

The company said they would increase the capacity in settlements having more post offices. Meanwhile, in 109 localities, they will introduce mobile postal services.
As we reported, multiple administration and government offices will close in Hungary because of the energy crisis. The measure concerns low-traffic offices, which will close between early November and mid-March. Regardless, at least one office will remain open in each district.
