More options to charge electronic devices at Budapest Airport

Budapest Airport has installed a total of 11 new charging stations in the landside area of the airport, before security screening. The charging stations are each equipped with 6 USB-C and 6 USB-A, 3 European standard compliant and 1 UK standard compliant, as well as 4 inductive charging units, ensuring that all passengers can find the charging point that suits their devices.

In addition to the newly installed stations, the charging of electronic devices remains possible at the existing stations within the transit area of the airport, such as at all passenger seats on the pier on the A side and at the counters in the area of the food and beverage outlets, bud.hu wrote.

10 million passengers in 10 months at Budapest Airport

As we leave the summer behind us, passenger traffic at Ferenc Liszt International Airport is slowly decreasing. Although the monthly passenger number remained above one million in October, traffic compared to 2019 fell from 80-82% in the summer months to 79%. In the tenth month of the year, 1,169,679 arriving and departing passengers used Budapest Airport. The airport has thus registered 10,230,431 passengers in total so far in 2022, 220% more than last year.

Last year, Budapest Airport’s forecast assumed a full recovery of passenger traffic in 2023. However, the recently introduced tax created an additional burden for airlines and resulted in canceled capacities for this fall and the upcoming winter season. Based on this and the impacts of high inflation and a slowing economy, BUD revised and reduced its forecast by 2 million passengers. This not only impacts Budapest Airport, but the entire tourism industry, generating over 100 billion HUF of potential revenues lost for the sector.

Following a slight decrease in September, cargo volumes increased by 11.2% in October, compared to the same period last year; Budapest Airport handled 17,011 tons of cargo last month. The increase is due to a surge in traffic, caused by the year-end peak season, as well as the joint work of the airport and the air cargo community. As a result, Budapest Airport is delivering strong results, despite the global slowdown seen in cargo.

Passengers appreciate the continuous development of Ferenc Liszt International Airport

Thanks to investments of more than 80 billion HUF over the past three years, passenger satisfaction at Ferenc Liszt International Airport has been increasing steadily. In the results of the internationally recognized quarterly ASQ (airport service quality) surveys, the last quarter of 2021 surpassed all previous values, and this year, even with increasing passenger numbers, the overall passenger satisfaction level is still higher. The score of 4.11 on a scale of 1 to 5 is 7.5% higher than the result measured in the same period of the record passenger year, 2019. There is also a noticeable increase, compared to the aforementioned period, in the kindness and helpfulness of security staff and the overall cleanliness of the terminals.

The seamlessness of security screening and the short waiting times were rated very highly by passengers. This is due to the recent technological developments at Budapest Airport and timely preparations after the pandemic. Passengers are informed on arrival at the terminal, on monitors, whether they can expect shorter waiting times at Terminal A or B, and modern screening equipment also allow small electronic devices (e.g. laptop, hairdryer, etc.) to remain in hand baggage during screening. The result is particularly outstanding given that the first “real” summer after the coronavirus pandemic tested airports across Europe, but in Budapest, passengers did not have to wait more than 10-14 minutes for security screening, even during the busiest periods while the average waiting time was 5 minutes.

In addition to the above, the quality of the Wi-Fi service and the availability of charging stations for electrical devices also received an outstanding score, ranking second in the region.

Overall, Ferenc Liszt International Airport has been the best performer in the region for four consecutive quarters, outperforming its competitors in similar categories and again confirming the progress made in providing great quality and services.
