One of the most successful series on Netflix this year was definitely Wednesday, partly directed by Tim Burton. Although the first season premiered only recently, the filmmakers are already preparing for season 2. While it has not yet been confirmed, there is a speculation that the new season could be filmed in Hungary.

Many of the scenes were shot in the neighbourhood of Hungary in Romania, where several iconic buildings of Romania were used as the main locations of the series. These buildings included, for example, the Cantacuzino Castle in Bușteni, which served as the Nevermore Academy, the most important location of the story, or a building of the Bucharest University of Technology, which appears as the first school of the main character. Transtelex, however, has recently spotted a rumour in the Romanian media saying that the producers are looking for a new location for the next season.

The news portal reports that the production would be moved from Romania to Bulgaria or Hungary. The report reveals that the alleged change of location was decided by the producers for a number of reasons. It is possible that the decision was made primarily for financial reasons. This means that Romania did not offer sufficiently favourable financial conditions for filming. Although they do have a framework law that allows them to support productions made there in order to enhance the country’s image, it is not currently in force.

Another possible reason for the change of location is that Romanian film companies have consistently overpriced the equipment they offered for rent. As the news portal reports, there were times when they had to rent cameras for USD 3,000 instead of the usual USD 300.
