LEGO is one of the most expensive in Hungary
For some reason, LEGO products are the sixth most expensive in Europe. Though the Danish company has the world’s second biggest manufacturing plant in Hungary.
The Toy Zone made a map showing the countries that pay the most and least for LEGO. They researched the prices of “eight most popular LEGO sets in marketplaces across roughly 200 countries to uncover who pays the most (and least)”, they said. The marketplaces include Amazon, Ubuy, Desertcart, OLX, eBay, Rakuten, MercadoLibre, Tokopedia, Toyco and others. All relevant data was collected in October 2022.
The results are intriguing. LEGO is the most expensive in Argentina, hit by record-high inflation. In the South American country, you need to pay USD 2,270 for the eight LEGO sets The Toy Zone examined. Meanwhile, that is the cheapest in Belgium, where you only have to pay USD 269 for the same products. In the United Kingdom, they cost USD 405, while in the USA USD 349. In Canada, you have to pay only USD 294 for the sets.
Here is the map (below you may find the European data):
Interestingly, LEGO is one of the most expensive in Hungary among the European countries. Only Russia (USD 601), Ukraine (USD 450), Bulgaria (USD 660), the United Kingdom (USD 405), and Slovenia (USD 399) precedes the Hungarian USD 375.
Here are the European data:
Hungary faces drastic inflation. According to the Central Statistical Office, consumer prices rose 24.5 percent in December. Meanwhile, that rate was only 22.5 percent in November, so the trend is disadvantegous.
However, Hungary had the world’s second largest LEGO plant in Nyíregyháza. The original factory was inaugurated in 2014. However, the government announced the Danish company would increase its capacity by 50 percent. Last September, the new manufacturing halls were completed. The company plans to operate on 232,000 square metres. Furthermore, in 2023, they plan to employ 250 more people.
Despite the ambitious plans, it seems they cannot decrease LEGO prices in Hungary.
