Hungary is the envy of the Germans: beer is much cheaper in Hungary
More and more money is being charged for a pint of beer in Germany, Bild reports. The paper looked at which countries in Europe are the most expensive and cheapest to buy this popular alcoholic drink. Hungary is on the list of the cheapest beers.
Beer prices in Germany could rise to EUR 7.50 by the end of the year, the Berlin-Brandenburg Brewers’ Association (Deutscher Brauer-Bund, DBB) warns. According to the DBB, the price of hops has risen by 35 percent and beer malt by 90 percent in a year, Index reports.
The difference in beer prices is striking. As Bild reports, while in Ukraine, you only pay 87 cents for a pint of beer in the pub, in Norway, you pay ten times that, EUR 8.83, for a pint. In addition to Norway, Denmark (EUR 6.72), Finland (EUR 6.50) and Sweden (EUR 6.29) also sell beer at a high price. Switzerland is also in the top league, with a beer drinker paying EUR 6.48 for a drink in a local pub.
Among the cheapest countries in terms of beer prices, next to Ukraine are Georgia (EUR 1.39), Bulgaria (EUR 1.53), Hungary (EUR 1.62) and Serbia (EUR 1.70). Poles pay EUR 2.55 for a beer, while Czechs pay only EUR 1.89 on average.
