Hungarian Cultural Centre Delhi organised an exhibition called ‘SOUL AND BODY : Evoking Amrita Sher-Gil’s artwork’. This exhibition by the students of the Fenyvesi Painting School of Zebegény is a tribute to the Hungarian-Indian painter Amrita Sher-Gil. The paintings of the exhibition influenced by Amrita Sher-Gil’s artwork were selected by a professional jury in the framework of the AMRITA110 Project launched by the Liszt Institute-Hungarian Cultural Centre Delhi to celebrate the 110th birthday of famous painter,Amrita Sher-Gil (1913-1941).
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Marianne Erdő, Director of Liszt Institute-Hungarian Cultural Centre Delhi and Ms. Orsolya Csilléry, Co-founder and art teacher of the Fenyesi Painting School at the India International Centre Annexe, Delhi, The Exhibition will be open to the public from 9th to 12th February, 2023.
The Fenyvesi Painting School is the private painting school of painter Gábor Fenyvesi and the graphic artist Orsolya Csilléry. The School is located in the picturesque village of Zebegény in Hungary in the former Szepessy villa, The villa’s fame comes from its previous owners : the Szepessy-Gottesmann family, including painter Amrita Sher-Gil and the scholar of Indian culture, Ervin Baktay, both of whom often spent their summer vacation in the inspiring surroundings of Zebegény.
The event was attended by diplomats, artists and other distinguished invitees. Before parting I would like to quote the Amrita Sher-Gil’s creed followed by the School: “In drawing teaching, a lifeless routine is incredibly harmful, but fostering the development of voluntary discipline based on inner orientation can open up perspectives.”
