The 74th Republic Day of India was commemorated on 26th January 2023 at the Embassy of India Budapest. A large group of Indian nationals in Budapest and friends of India attended the event.

The celebration started in the morning with the unfurling of the National Flag at the Embassy premises followed by the singing of the National Anthem.

This was followed by the message of the President of India to the audience by the Charge d’Affaires, a,i, Mr. Ramji. Greeting fellow citizens on this important day, the honorable President recounted the amazing journey of Independent India that has inspired many other nations. “When we celebrate the Republic Day, we celebrate what we have achieved, together as a nation,” she said. With hope and confidence, India began an experiment unique in the history of humankind. “Such a vast and diverse multitude of people coming together as one nation remains unprecedented. We did so with a belief that we are, after all, one; that we are all Indians. We have succeeded as a democratic republic because so many creeds and so many languages have not divided us, they have only united us”, the President added in her message. She reminded the people that the Constitution of India is inspired by the humanistic philosophy and the vision enshrined in the Consitution has been continuously guiding the country. She urged that although progress made on all fronts has been encouraging. much remained to be done to achieve the upliftment of all or ideal ‘Sarvodaya’ which was the vision of Gandhiji. The president also thanked the generations of people from different walks of life who contributed to the development of India and the sacrifices made by the members of the armed forces, police and paramilitary in the service of the nation.

A colorful cultural programme was organised comprising the singing of patriotic songs and dance performances. Students and teachers of the Amrita Sher-Gil Cultural Center rendered a patriotic song accompanied by young children on the tabla. A group of Indian ladies and Hungarian ladies rendered another song. A Kathak dance performance on the theme of Vande Mataram or salutation to mother (India) was done by the Kathak teacher and her student. A Rhythmic yoga presentation was given to a popular Indian song led by three yoga teachers. A Bharatanatyam dance performance was also done by students of Dora Bitner which was followed by an exquisite performance of dance fusion of Indian classical dances of Kathak, Odissi, Kuchipudi and Bharatnatyam by the teachers of the Cultural Center.

The audience was informed that the Amrita Shergil Cultural Center of the Embassy of India offers classes in yoga, Indian music and Indian dance and anyone interested to learn may register to join.
