MAP: These are the districts with the highest number of burglaries in Budapest
The latest heat map of Budapest, which shows the most recent burglaries, reveals some interesting data. The database is available on the website of the Hungarian police and highlights the areas of Budapest where most of these crimes have been committed in the previous months.
Looking at the map of Hungary, the number of burglaries in the last few months shows that Budapest has had the highest number of burglaries, 112 in total, and 379 such crimes have been committed in the whole country. As penzcentrum.hu reports, the latest annual aggregate figures are available from 2020. According to PRE-STAT data, more than 1,200 home burglaries were recorded that year. Nationwide, there were nearly 7,000 burglaries in 2020.
Penzcentrum.hu checked out the latest crime map on police.hu. The map also reveals which neighbourhoods have had an exceptionally high number of home burglaries recently.
The heat map below shows the burglaries committed in recent months. Areas marked with red indicate the highest numbers of home burglaries:
The largest red area on the map covers District 13. In the area of Béke Street and Reitter Ferenc Street, 8 cases have been recorded since last August:
District 13 is followed by the area around Gellért Hill. A total of 4 such crimes have been reported here since August 2022. Furthermore, the map also lists the same number of burglaries in the area around Kerepesi Road and Hungária Boulevard, situated on the border of District 7 and District 14.
Most burglaries are committed between November and February
Groupama BiztosÃtó insurance company informed penzcentrum.hu that homes left empty during the festive season and winter holidays are easy prey for criminals. In addition, weekend houses that are not used during the winter are also more exposed to burglary. As they wrote,
nearly 40 percent of our burglary losses occur during the 4 months between November and February.
According to penzcentrum.hu, no one should think that they can easily outsmart burglars. They know very well where to look for hidden valuables. The site warns that burglars often look for cash, jewellery or other valuable items in the living room and bedroom drawers.
