Free taxi in Budapest! This is how you can use it

From now on, the municipality of Terézváros – Budapest’s 6th district – will help elderly people living in the district with a new service. The Időstaxi, meaning Elderly Taxi, is free of charge in the district.

According to the municipality, the aim of the initiative is to make it easier for residents who are less mobile due to their age and health condition to manage their official affairs, to get to medical examinations and treatments, napi.hu reports.

People aged 60 and over living in the 6th district can use the Elderly Taxi to visit health institutions, to attend to official business in person, to go shopping or to move to a social institution, among other things.

To use the Elderly Taxi, please call +36 (70) 938-3833 five days before your planned trip, between 10 AM and 2 PM on weekdays. The transport is free of charge within the district and costs HUF 1,000 (EUR 2.62) within the capital.

Official: Consumer protection a priority for Hungarian government

Consumer protection is a main priority for the Hungarian government and it is welcome that it will be an important issue for the EU in future, a senior official of the justice ministry said in Brussels on Tuesday.

Nóra Kupecki, deputy state secretary for consumer protection, attended a meeting of her EU member counterparts which was held to discuss current and future challenges concerning consumer protection.

She told MTI that among the challenges, they discussed the effects Brussels’ sanctions have on consumers including the economic crisis and inflation, and measures by member states to tackle them.

Kupecki said the Hungarian government will support the EU legislation being currently drafted that ensure consumer protection. She noted among them a decree on product safety as well as proposals related to sustainability, the environmentally friendly labeling of products and the green transition.
