Here is how shops will be open over the Easter long weekend in Hungary
This year, Good Friday is on 7 April, followed by Easter Sunday on 9 April and Easter Monday on 10 April. These three days are public holidays. We will let you know the opening hours of shops in Hungary over the long weekend.
Opening hours during the long weekend
On Thursday, 6 April, shops will open according to their general timetable, 24.hu reports. However, Shops, malls, shopping centres, hypermarkets, supermarkets, chain stores, and other shops, will not be open on Friday, 7 April.
If you haven’t bought everything you need for Easter by Thursday, you can make up for lost time on 8 April. On Saturday, shops will be open again, according to their normal Saturday opening hours.
Then on Sunday, 9 April and Monday, 10 April, everything is closed again.
On Tuesday, 11 April, the normal shopping and administrative routine will resume, and shops and service providers will open their doors again. Post offices will also be open. They will be closed on Friday, Sunday and Monday. On Saturday though, all post offices will be open according to the normal Saturday working hours.
Where can I shop on these three days?
But there may be exceptions to the Easter opening hours. As Hóvége reports, according to the law, there are some shops that can be open during the Easter holidays. So, it is possible to shop on these days at following places:
- in petrol stations and shops,
- independent flower shops,
- newsagents,
- candy shops,
- non-stop, 0-24 shops,
- tobacconists (if the owner or a family member works there),
- as well as in catering and entertainment establishments.
Important information on pharmacies
It is important to note that on public holidays (i.e. Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday), you can only go to pharmacies that are open 0-24, i.e. on public holidays, and those that are on call and on standby. On Saturday, pharmacies that are open on rest days will also be open. However, they may not work their usual Saturday/rest day hours, but only until noon. After closing time, they may be available on-call or stand-by.
