Ryanair loses appeal against Hungarian consumer protection fine, has to pay EUR 800,000
Low-cost carrier Ryanair has lost its appeal against a HUF 300 million (EUR 800,000) consumer protection fine, the justice ministry said on Wednesday.
The Budapest Court of Appeal ruled against the Irish carrier’s bid to overturn the fine levied for passing on the cost of a windfall profit tax to consumers, MTI reported.
On 10 June 2022, the Government Office of Budapest launched a consumer protection authority procedure against the company for passing on the extra profit tax to passengers, napi.hu recalls.
The consumer protection authority under the professional guidance of the Ministry of Justice found that the airline had committed an infringement by misleading consumers through unfair commercial practices. It imposed a HUF 300 million consumer protection fine on Ryanair-DAC.
