VIDEO, PHOTOS: Extraordinary artistic feat over the Danube in Budapest
Hungarian high-wire artist László Simet Jr. (63) carried out an extraordinary stunt over the Danube River in Budapest yesterday. That was the first such performance in history.
Mr Simet walked on a tightrope without a safety harness over the river from the Buda side to the Pest. The altitude was 40 metres, while the length reached 300 metres. The diameter of the rope was measured at 22 millimetres. The stunt served as the grand opening event of the 10th International Theater Olympics on World Circus Day.

10th International Theater Olympics opens in Budapest
The 10th International Theatre Olympics opened in Budapest on Saturday, with concerts and street performances taking place at several locations along the Danube embankment. As the flag of the three-month event series was hoisted by the National Theatre building, Attila Vidnyánszky, artistic director of the festival and director of the National Theatre, revealed that “more than 100 institutions are realising this dream” after four years of preparations.
The 10th Theatre Olympics will feature 750 productions by 400 theatre, dance and puppet theatre troupes from 58 countries, showcasing 7,500 performers. The programmes will take place in nearly 100 venues all across the country until the closing day, on the 1st of July.
