The most famous Hungarian esport players

Being an esport competitor is just as tough as being a professional athlete, and only the best of the best has the chance of making it to the top. Here’s a list of the best and most recognised Hungarian esport players who proudly represent Hungary in the virtual space.

The Cambridge Dictionary defines ‘sport’ as a game, competition, or activity needing physical effort and skill that is played or done according to rules, for enjoyment and/or as a job. However, since the International Olympic Committee also recognises chess as a sport both for its mental and physical requirements for competitive players to beat each other, we can safely say that esports has its own merit on the stage of sports.

As skill-based competitions, esports has been a part of humanity since the dawn of computers but have only been industrialised in the last decade. In this article, we list some of the most well-known and successful Hungarian esport players.

Balázs ‘KODIAK’ Török

KODIAK is one of the most well-known “OG” Hungarian esport players, playing CounterStrike. He started his career in 1999, and has qualified for the World Cyber Games three times, in 2001, 2002 and in 2005. Aged 44 at the time of writing, KODIAK is still an active content creator and analyst in the Hungarian esport scene.

Bence ‘Deadfox’ Böröcz

Deadfox was the first professional Hungarian Counter-Strike: Global Offensive player and spent 3 years at Hell Raisers. He has played at 3 international ‘Major’ tournaments, reaching the quarterfinals at the FACEIT Major 2018. After a hiatus, he recently voiced his willingness to return to competitive Counter-Strike.

Ádám ‘Torzsi’ Torzsás

MOUZ’s AWPer is the only active Hungarian player in Tier 1 Counter-Strike, and has made history by reaching the semi-finals in the IEM Rio Major 2022, becoming the most successful Hungarian CS:GO player. He is currently preparing for the Paris Major, which has a prize pool of USD 1,25 million.

Adrián ‘Raisy’ Birgány

As one of the world’s top Quake Champions players, Raisy finished at a brilliant 2nd place at the 2022 World Championship. He has been active on the scene since 2017.

Tamás ‘Vizicsacsi’ Kiss

Vizicsacsi is a professional League of Legends player, who became well-known for his off-meta picks as a toplaner in high-pressure situations. He was the MVP of the 2018 LCS Spring season and was the only Hungarian player who made it to the World Championship in 2019, where they made it to the quarter-finals. Vizicsacsi, whose nickname means “water donkey” in Hungarian is currently playing for German team BIG in the German league.

Dani Bereznay

The Hungarian simulator racer who is competing under his own name in the official Formula 1 esports series recently announced that for the second time, he will be racing with the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Esports Team. He finished second in the 2018 F1 Esports championship with them and raced for Alfa Romeo and McLaren before returning to the German marque. It is also worth mentioning that another Hungarian youngster, Patrik Sipos, has also been racing in the F1 Esports Pro Championship since 2021 with Alpine, but until this date, Bereznay remains the most successful Hungarian esport driver – who also earned the most by choosing esport as his career.
