Remarkable change in the parking system at Budapest’s busy railway station
From July, you will have to pay for P+R parking in Őrmező, Kelenföld, near one of Budapest’s busiest railway stations.
No more free parking at Kelenföld from July
From July, between 6 AM and 10 PM, those who want to use the P+R parking spaces near Kelenföld railway station, will have to pay HUF 350 (EUR 0.94) per parking space, Budapest Közút Zrt. said in a statement, spotted by Totalcar.hu. The car parks have been free of charge until now.
According to the company, one of the conditions of the EU funds received during the investment of metro line M4 was that the 1,453 parking spaces in the Őrmező P1, P2 and Etele Square P1, P2 car parks could be used free of charge for five years. These car parks were built as part of the development. However, that period expired on 17 November 2022.
Even on public holidays and weekends
The details of the payment and camera surveillance system will be finalised by the summer. From then on, it will cost money to wait in these spaces even on public holidays and weekends.
In its statement, the company operating the car parks in the capital also points out that by making the previously free car parks paid and guarded, they want to restore the real P+R function. They want to ensure that no one stores their car there for long periods of time. This is particularly true from 10 PM to the morning, which is when it will be more expensive: the tariff will be HUF 105 (EUR 0.28) per hour.
Free parking to be abolished in other Budapest car parks as well
The company also announced that night-time charging will be introduced from July in the other P+R car parks owned by the capital and currently operated by Budapest Közút (Köki Terminal P+R; Kőbánya-Kispest P+R, Hűvösvölgy P1 P+R; Örs vezért Square P+R; Pillangó Street P+R; Újpest-Városkapu P+R) as well.
