Positive traffic changes in Budapest: the former lanes of the replacement buses will be renewed
After the handover of the renovated metro line 3, the former lanes of the replacement buses will be renewed, and soon motorists can use more of them. As a result, traffic load is expected to be reduced on side streets, so cyclists can finally breath a sigh of relief – BKK said in a statement on Monday.
As BKK pointed out, the urban development concept called Reviving Avenues (Újjáéledő sugárutak) is entering a new phase: after the handover of the renovated metro line 3, bus lanes are no longer needed on the Váci Avenue-Üllői Avenue axis. Following the corrective works and pothole removal, the lanes will be reconfigured. The related work will take several weeks.
Restored lanes
On Váci Avenue, between the Göncz Árpád city centre and Dózsa György Avenue, vehicles will be able to use 2×3 lanes. On the section between Gogol Street and Nyugati Square, new cycle lanes will be added and three new pedestrian crossings will be installed on Nyugati Square.
On Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Avenue, between Nyugati Square and Deák Ferenc Square, the pre-metro traffic regime will be restored, with 2×2 car lanes and a shared bus and cycle lane in both directions.
On Károly Boulevard and Múzeum Boulevard, which connect Deák Ferenc Square and Kálvin Square, the original traffic order will be restored: 2×1 bike lanes and 2×2 traffic lanes will be available, BKK said.
As we wrote a few days ago, Budapest public transport tickets and passes will soon undergo significant changes, details HERE.

What’s readers opinions on the state of the Freeway going to and from Franc Lizst Airport backinto central Budapest ?
I use the airport bus to and from Deak Ferenc ter – to Franc Lizst -and the Freeway is a DISGRACE, somewhat of an EMBARRASSMENT, for visitors/tourist arriving and traveling on it – in buses or taxi’s or limousine’s.
If it goes on, especially over the heat of summer, when surfaces of roads and freeways become softer in there compositions bitumen exampled, this FREEWAY will have to probably need to have SPEED restrictions placed on it or closed in parts.
Its disgracefully un-comfortable to travel on – the ROUGHNESS of the ride through the APPALLING condition of this Freeway.
The wear and tear – on on Public Buses used for this airport service – they are being, there suspensions in particular are being tested that will see DAMAGE to them sooner than later.
Is it dangerous at this point in time to permit the maximum speed to be reached ?
YES it is especially if it rains or in summer with the heat on the breaking up and cracking Freeway surface.
