Hungarian Olympic athlete posed as a cancer patient, defrauding millions
A Hungarian Olympic athlete pretended to have cancer and cheated her ex-boyfriend out of millions of forints.
Tamás Kovács met the former sportswoman in 2017, when she returned to Hungary after a long stay abroad, Blikk said.
“Initially, the story was that she had a brain tumour, so she asked for a loan for the operation. I gave it to her, of course. Then it turned out that she was at a stage where it was not possible to operate, but medication could improve her condition, so she asked me for more money. That’s when I gave it to her. Of course we always signed a loan contract, the collateral being her father’s house abroad. She told me that the old man was doing very poorly and was expected to die soon,” said Tamás.
After his father’s alleged death, she promised to get his inheritance soon after the probate hearing, which would involve following the necessary steps for filing probate. To make the story even more credible, she even forwarded a letter from an alleged lawyer to Tamás, assuring him that she would soon pay him the debt. This never happened.
“In my mind I was already prepared for this amount to be lost. Over the years I have given her a total of about HUF 2.8 million (EUR 7587). With each new loan, she promised to pay me back with interest, and this is also in the contracts. I have calculated that we are now at about HUF 5.5 million (EUR 14,902), but I have no illusions. Over the years I have got to know her and I have seen her living conditions, so I know that she has nothing. She simply does not have the money to pay me back. The alleged inheritance is a sham. It would be a satisfaction if I could get her to sit down,”
said Tamás.
Blikk reports that the ex-athlete was reached, but she refused to comment. We have sent questions about the case to the National Police Headquarters and will update this article as soon as we receive a reply.
As we wrote a few days ago, a woman of Hungarian descent living in Ocala, Florida, shot and killed an African-American family mother. Local American newspapers talk about racism, photos and details HERE.
