Surprising: Orbán’s ‘yacht orgy mayor’ wants to run for office again

After his 2019 sex scandal, Zsolt Borkai resigned from politics and quit Fidesz. Is he ready now to come back as a candidate for the mayor of Győr?

In 2019, explicit photos and videos were leaked of the mayor of Győr, Zsolt Borkai. He was on a yacht cruise on the Adriatic Sea and as it seems, he was enjoying his holiday a bit too much… An anonymous blogger reported that the politician was doing drugs and hiring prostitutes on his cruise. Later on, Borkai admitted that these allegations were “partially true” and that he was deeply sorry for his actions. He confirmed that prostitutes were present, but he denied taking any illegal substances. Borkai said that he was only under the influence of alcohol.

Who was behind the leaked photos and videos?

Borkai also said that although he has no proof, he is strongly convinced that the Democratic Coalition’s (DK) Szombathely municipal representative, Csaba Czeglédy, was behind the leaked content on the Devil’s Advocate blog. He confessed that he knew that there would be prostitutes on the yacht, but he was not the one to hire them. Borkai also said that they had made a mistake by not taking all of the phones away before the party started. He saw that one of the ladies was making videos, but he was not suspicious at the time. The conclusion he took from the events was: not to take any women on board ever again.

A new start

Four years after his scandal, he gave an interview for the first time. 168 reports that the politician was having major problems after his scandal. His relationship with his wife changed for the worse and he did not know how he would survive such a situation. Borkai has successfully found himself again as it seems. Now, he has realised that the citizens of Győr still like him. He is able to speak about his scandal openly and he has announced his run for office as an independent candidate. He wants to show that he is worthy of the trust of the citizens.

Relationship with Fidesz

Borkai believes that his scandal got really big because he was part of Fidesz. Christian values are important for the party, so the opposition was able to blow the story up saying that his actions go against those beliefs. After his scandal, he allegedly tried to contact his fellows from Fidesz, but nobody answered his calls. He thinks that family and love are important to Fidesz. Therefore, forgiveness should have been there for him. His main reason for running for mayor is not going against the current Fidesz mayor, András Csaba Dézsi. He feels an urge to be there for the people of Győr and help them, this is what inspired him to run for mayor again.
