Is Brussels trying to divert foreign investment from Hungary to Romania?
Responding to a report that a vice-president of the European Parliament was urging foreign companies to make investments in countries like Romania rather than in Hungary, a foreign ministry official said on Monday that Brussels would “move the BMW factory in Debrecen to Romania”.
“Brussels has launched yet another attack against Hungary and Hungarians,” Tamás Menczer, the state secretary for bilateral relations, said on Facebook, adding that the reason why was that Hungary rejected “migration, war and sanctions”.
He said Katarina Barley, “the vice-president of the extremely pro-war and pro-immigration” EP had advocated “starving Hungary financially”.
Menczer said investments were key to the country’s sustained economic strength, and it had succeeded in serially breaking investment and export records.
“We reject the renewed attack by Brussels and will defend Hungary’s sovereignty,” he said.
