PHOTOS: Hungarian university’s facility to be completely renewed
The University of Debrecen, one of Hungary’s best universities, is changing its dimensions. Thanks to a development to be carried out in four phases, its area will expand to 12 thousand sqm, and its technology faculty will be beautifully renewed and extended.
Government-supported rebuilding
According to Magyar Építők, the building of the technology faculty of the university will be expanded by 4,500 sqm. The institution’s press office added they would get a new building wing. The development aims to adjust the university to the city’s defining position in the vehicle industry.
Students at the university’s technology faculty will be able to use 12 thousand sqm for their studies in Debrecen thanks to modernisation and expansion. The Hungarian government provides the money (HUF 11 billion, EUR 29 million) for the development. The plan is to create the Debrecen Automotive Centre connected to BMW’s grand factory investment.
In the first phase, a new building wing will be constructed from Virág Street, and they will build a new main gate block as well. The new building will contain offices, educational blocks, labs and social spaces. During the second phase of the investment, they will connect the faculty’s U-shaped, six-storied building A with a three-storied building housing the Department of Mechatronics.
Faculty of Economics at Debrecen University ready in 4 years
In the third phase, building A will undergo a renewal process. Meanwhile, in the last phase, the subcontractors will renovate the southern building wing of the faculty.
The reason for the expansion is the continuously growing number of students. The faculty was launched in 2006 with two 2,000 undergraduates. Now they count 3,000 students. Moreover, thanks to the automotive investments in Debrecen, the training portfolio of the institution continuously changed in the last few years. The university aims to send out graduates fully qualified to work for the companies coming to or already operating in Debrecen. According to the plans, the renovation project will finish in four years, but the construction process will not disturb the classes.
