VIDEO: Documentary on the rise of Hungary’s Árpád dynasty released
Where did Hungarians come from? How did they live before and after the Conquest of the Carpathian Basin? How did the Árpád dynasty unite the tribes and form a Christian country in Europe’s heart? Here is a comprehensive history documentary about the 9th and 10th centuries of the Hungarians and the Árpád dynasty.
According to Magyar Nemzet, the movie focuses on the rise of the Árpád dynasty and the early history of the Hungarians. It took three years to complete the project, which debuted on 20 August on Duna Television in Hungary. The movie presents the story of the 9th to 10th centuries comprehensively. It elaborates on the myths and legends of the Hungarians’ early history, but it also uses contemporary sources to clarify many questions concerning the seven Hungarian tribes.
Several well-known movie industry experts took part in the making of the film. The leading Historian expert behind it was Balázs Sudár, a member of the Eötvös Loránd Research Network Research Centre for the Humanities. Sándor Takó, the producer of the movie, added that they used national treasures like Anonymus’s Gesta Hungarorum (written around 1200 AD) and Márk Kálti’s Illustrated Chronicle (around 1360 AD). He hopes the Hungarian education will integrate their movie.
