Agreement signed: flights to start between Hungary and African country
The Hungarian Parliament adopted the bill on the ratification of the air transport agreement between Hungary and the Government of Rwanda by 164 votes in favour, 15 against and one abstention.
There is no bilateral air services agreement between Hungary and Rwanda that would allow direct flights between the two countries.
On the Rwandan side, there has been a demand for Rwandan carriers to offer direct flights to Budapest through commercial agreements with European carriers, thus ensuring better air connectivity between Rwanda and Central and Eastern Europe, AIRportal.hu reports.
To achieve this, the Rwandan air carrier must have the appropriate air traffic rights, which can be secured through a bilateral agreement.
It is in the interest of both parties to regulate aviation relations by agreement. The agreement will contribute to the strengthening of Hungary’s economic relations with Africa and may facilitate the deepening of bilateral trade and economic relations.
The agreement was signed in Kigali on 10 November 2021.
