Countries such as Spain and France are popular destinations for tourists in the hotter months with travellers favouring these locations due to their rich culture and iconic landmarks.
We know some of the most popular countries among travellers, but what cities are the biggest tourist hotspots in Europe? To find out more, Wizz Air completed a ranking of European cities by the number of visitors per 100 locals to explore what city is the go-to destination for tourists and what cities are flying under the radar.
They analysed all European destinations they supply flights to and also compared 2022 data to 2019 figures, to investigate how the number of tourists has changed since before the global pandemic.
The research found that Budapest ranked as the seventh-biggest tourist hotspot in Europe and has also seen a massive upsurge in visitors since 2019, increasing by an impressive 71.4%.
