Fantastic Advent and New Year’s adventures await in the Várkert Bazár in Budapest!
This year, the Várkert Bazár opens its doors again to welcome the Advent season and invites everyone to join in on the fun. Programmes include concerts and culture tastings and are not limited to adults!
It’s the ninth year in a row that the Várkert Bazár organises its annual winter wonderland of programmes, magyarorszagom.hu writes. Those interested can listen to acknowledged and well-known artists and get to know different cultures, but most importantly celebrate the Advent and the New Year.
Advent and Christmas fair for big and small ones alike!
Every Saturday and Sunday, the Christmas fair will open at the Várkert Bazár featuring Hungary’s prominent designers. On the first three Sundays, there will be free programmes for children where they can handmake crafts or enjoy one of the children’s concerts held during the days. During the night, those who visit can even get their hands on some cool coupons!
Special exhibition
In the Buda Castle Quarter, at the end of November, Marcsi Borbás’s outdoor exhibition “The Table Tells” opens, focusing on cultural gastronomy. The exhibition’s focal point will be typical festive dishes of the Carpathian Basin. On 9 and 12 December, Marcsi Borbás presents unconventional guided tours, showcasing her work.
Panoramic walk in the Buda Castle
Enjoy a nice stroll and excited about history? Then these special tours are just for you! Budai Várséták introduced two guided walks. Titled “Sisi’s Christmas”, the tour aims to introduce visitors to the holiday celebrations of Queen Elisabeth. The second titled “The Capital’s Jewelry Box” allows visitors to explore Várkert Bazár while enjoying the beautiful Budapest panorama.
Donate to a good cause
Visitors can aid those less fortunate with the help of the Hungarian Interchurch Aid, who will be also present in the Advent programmes. Donations can be placed in boxes specifically designated for this purpose.
Lighting the Advent Wreath
On 3 December, they officially lit the first candle of the Advent Wreath. If that’s not reason enough to visit the Várkert Bazár, then the performance of the Honvéd Men’s Choir will surely lure everyone out to wonder at the sight and sound of this fantastic event. Among many other great events, the Bagossy Brothers Company will also perform on the 3rd of December. What is more, the “Dance in the Snow” concert of Tamás Szarka is also on the musical menu of the Várkert Bazár.
Cultural stretch: Barcelona Gipsy balKan Orchestra
Next to the many international spices of this year’s programme, the Barcelona Gipsy balKan Orchestra will take the stage on the 10th of December. Don’t miss out on the cultural refresher of the Várkert Irodalom Aposztróf either! This 12 December, literary figure Anna Juhász will host Marcsi Borbás and Olga Szederkényi.
Budapest Bar Double Concert
The Budapest Bar will take to the stage on 17 December, this year featuring many well-known artists such as Dóri Behumi, Juci Németh, Bori Rutkai, György Ferenczi, Frenk, András Keleti, László Kollár-Klemencz, and Misi Mező. The Szent Efrém Man’s Choir’s special edition Christmas album will also be introduced at the Várkert on 23 December.
Welcoming the New Year with Be Massive and Random Trip
This year, Random Trip will help say goodbye to the old year on December 30th. On the last day of the year, Be Massive will hold their electronic music party to welcome the New Year. Their concert will close not only the old year, but also the Advent and Christmas programmes at the Várkert Bazár. Check out the Várkert Bazár’s official site for more information!
