Hungarian motorways that will become toll roads in 2024, one-day vignette price
More than 200 km of toll roads will be extended in Hungary from 1 January 2024. This includes the country’s most congested motorway, the M0. As another change, the one-day motorway vignette is coming next year as well: and we finally know how much it will cost.
According to a decree of the Ministry of Construction and Transport published on 5 December, the length of toll motorways in Hungary will be increased by 235 km from 1 January. Among them, the entire M0 motorway (the ringroad around Budapest), the M44 highway and the M30 bypass at Miskolc will become toll roads, vg.hu reports.
New toll roads from 1 January 2024
Under the legislation, from 1 January 2024, tolls will be introduced on the following roads, which will also apply to passenger cars:
- the whole of the M0, but a Pest county vignette will be sufficient on the sections concerned,
- along the whole length of the M4, where, in addition to the Pest County vignette, the Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County vignette will also be required,
- along the M44, where the Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok and Békés County vignettes will be introduced, the Bács-Kiskun county vignette will be valid for a short stretch up to Tiszakürt,
- the whole length of the M30 motorway, after the end of the toll-free section between Miskolc South and Miskolc North, but with a Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County vignette, the whole length of the motorway can be used,
- the M31 will also become tolled, a Pest County vignette will suffice,
- the M76 from Balatonszentgyörgy to Keszthely-Fenékpuszta, on which the Somogy and Zala County vignettes will both be valid.
This means that from 1 January 2024, the counties of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok and Békés will be added to the list of toll roads.
2024 vignette prices to increase significantly
Under current legislation, the 2024 vignette prices will be linked to the consumer prices in August of the previous year, which will lead to an increase of 16.4% in January. Therefore, the following prices will apply to e-vignettes:
(Translation: E-matrica díjkategória: E-vignette price category; Országos: National; Vármegyei: County; Heti (10 napos): Weekly (10-day); Havi: Monthly; Éves: Annual)
From 1 March, a one-day sticker will also be introduced, costing HUF 5150.
Here is how much more expensive D1 vignettes bought by motorists will be:
- 10-day: HUF 900 (EUR 2.29)
- monthly: HUF 1460 (EUR 3.71)
- annual: more than HUF 8000 (more than EUR 20)
- annual county: HUF 940 (EUR 2.39)

On top of this VERY HEFTY tolls , there is a typical Hungarian nasty exchange rate , paying 24 euro for a 6400 HUF vignette, while by official currency rate ….that’s 16.40 Eur . ALL “matrica” SELLERS charge the same way , and don’t even accept euro cents under 50c . VERY UNFAIR , however seems to be ACCEPTED BY THE OFICIALS 😉
