The most crime-ridden areas of Hungary

Robbery, theft, or assault are just a few among the types of criminal activities that have become commonplace, as indicated by police announcements, in Hungary. Here are the most crime-riddent areas of the country.
The National Police Headquarters has long been featuring an infection map on its website. With a 30-day delay, this map allows us to see, broken down by county and district, the extent to which crime has infected a particular area concerning ten specific types of crimes. The compilation by Index was also crafted using this map. The police present the data concerning the number of crimes per 100,000 inhabitants. Based on this, noticeable differences may emerge between the capital and other counties.
The capital is not as crime-ridden as one would think
Despite millions residing in the Hungarian capital and its agglomeration, surprisingly, the large numbers do not proportionally attract an increase in criminal activities. In the first part of the database, where areas are ranked based on all committed crimes, Budapest doesn’t claim the top spot. Instead, it’s Heves County in the northern part of the country.
The counties are ranked with the following number of reported crimes:
- Heves 1748
- Budapest 1693
- Nógrád 1410
- Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok 1341
- Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén 1234
- Bács-Kiskun 1117
- Somogy 1094
- Szabolcs-Szatmár 1076
- Tolna 1042
- Vas 1026
- Győr-Moson-Sopron 1025
- Baranya 991
- Pest 858
- Zala 851
- Veszprém 834
- Fejér 827
- Csongrád-Csanád 805
- Hajdú 721
- Békés 707.
Broken down by district, the results can be shocking: in Hevesi district (based on police figures per 100,000 inhabitants), with a population of just over 33,000, the authorities had to take action against 2,736 crimes, while in Gyomaendrőd district, with a population of around 20,000, the figure is only 484.
