VIDEO: rural air travel in Hungary is on the rise again
Hungarian rural air transport has reached another milestone as a new scheduled flight commences from Pécs.
Without exaggeration, those who visited the Pécs-Pogány airport on Tuesday morning witnessed a historic moment. It was here that the announcement was made of the resumption of regular flights from Pécs airport.
This marks a significant development, considering the absence of charter flights for 12 years and scheduled flights for 16 years.
According to PécsMa, a plane touched down at approximately nine o’clock, transporting its crew from Malta. The aircraft, with a capacity of 78 passengers, will service multiple routes starting from the 26th of March.
Initially, two routes will be available. The journey to Munich will last 1 hour and 20 minutes, while the flight to Malta will take 2 hours and 20 minutes. Another route is planned in May, likely bound for Corfu.
The flights are being operated by Universal Air. The choice of Munich as a destination is no coincidence, given that a significant number of tourists visiting Pécs originate from southern Germany. The county seat of Baranya shares strong business ties with the region, and the University of Pécs hosts many German students. Additionally, plans have been disclosed for a bus service to facilitate quick and easy access between the airport and Pécs.
Tickets will soon be available for purchase on Universal Air’s website, followed by availability through travel agents. Two pricing tiers will be offered: a premium business option and a more affordable leisure option. The ticket price will include a 15 kg bag and a hand luggage, as reported by vg.hu.
