Horror at Hungarian petrol stations: price rise continues with petrol at 6-month high
Oil prices are at a 7-month high, which will be reflected in the prices at Hungarian petrol stations. Gasoline will rise by HUF 4 and diesel by HUF 7 from Friday, 5 April.
According to a quick analysis by holtankoljak.hu, this is mainly due to the deterioration of the forint and the rise in Brent oil prices, Economx reports. After Friday’s increase, the average price of gasoline will be HUF 645 (EUR 1.65) and HUF 652 (EUR 1.67) for diesel.
The last time petrol cost this much was at the end of September and beginning of October last year, when it averaged HUF 647,
444.hu writes.
Reasons for petrol price increase
The reason for the price increase, among other factors, is that dealers are now trying to stock up on gasoline as the peak summer season approaches, when people use their cars much more and 95 petrol becomes a hit product, for example for holidays.
Ottó Grád, secretary general of the Hungarian Petroleum Association, told Pénzcentrum that the price of gasoline will certainly not stop at the current level, and that further increases can be expected in the coming weeks and months. According to him, the price of gasoline will approach that of diesel. The latter will also get more expensive, but the price increase will not be as drastic as in the case of petrol.
The last time prices changed was on Good Friday, when gasoline became HUF 3 more expensive, while diesel got HUF 3 cheaper.
