Fireworks for National Day celebration will go ahead in Budapest despite weather uncertainty
Right now, it seems like the Budapest fireworks will go ahead as planned, starting at 9 PM. The operational task force has been closely monitoring weather conditions throughout the day and evaluated developments on an hourly basis, announced Zoltán Kovács on Tuesday evening.
According to his Facebook post, based on the latest forecasts and available information, weather conditions over Budapest are expected to be favourable in the evening, allowing the St. Stephen’s Day fireworks to proceed as planned at 9:00 PM.
In case of any sudden unfavourable weather changes, the task force is ready to act immediately and will issue timely updates. “The safety of the public is our top priority,” Kovács added.
HungaroMet issued a thunderstorm alert for the capital earlier in the afternoon, leading to uncertainty about whether the fireworks would take place, 24.hu writes. Initially, a decision was expected by 3:00 PM, but it was postponed. Even by 5:00 PM, no clear stance could be taken.
Despite Zoltán Kovács’s announcement, a weather alert remained in effect for Budapest. However, this could change by the time the fireworks are scheduled to start at 9:00 PM.
