A strong nation is one that also has a strong cultural community, the deputy state secretary for public collections and cultural development said ahead of a conference held in connection with Hungary’s EU presidency, in Budapest on Wednesday.
When a certain group of Europeans says that Hungarian culture is not a value “but something anachronistic that should be rejected”, they weaken Hungary and the European Union, Máté Vincze told a press conference before a conference on the opportunities and challenges of accessing culture in contemporary Europe.
Vincze said he hoped the three-day conference could lead to a kind of international unity on taking pride in European and Hungarian culture.
The deputy state secretary said the conference opening on Wednesday is being attended by experts, government officials and diplomats from all EU member states.
The conference will focus on enhancing cultural participation through digitalisation and making it more accessible for disadvantaged people, he said.
According to the website of the Hungarian presidency of the Council of the European Union, invitees to the conference include members of the Cultural Affairs Committee of the Council, experts from cultural ministries, relevant stakeholders, policy advisors, practitioners and representatives from the European Commission.
