Further Hungarian citizens will be evacuated from Lebanon with a Slovak plane, in line with an agreement between the two countries, Péter Szijjártó, the minister of foreign affairs and trade, said in Budapest on Friday.
Szijjártó said the number of Hungarians in Lebanon was in the hundreds, with 233 “in the embassy’s field of vision”. Most of them live in Lebanon, and 22 have registered for consular protection, as citizens staying in Lebanon for a shorter time, for holidays, work or other reasons, Szijjártó said.
Hungary already evacuated 18 Hungarians, 7 minors among them, early in August, he said.
This time, ten people said they needed help in getting home, he added. They will come home with a Slovak plane. In similar situations, Hungary has also offered help to other European countries, he said.
The concrete time of the flight will be communicated to the evacuees privately for security reasons, Szijjártó said. The plane will land in Bratislava, he added.
“I would like to ask every Hungarian citizen to avoid the region when travelling… If they find themselves in trouble in Lebanon, please contact the consulate’s emergency number or the embassy,” Szijjártó said.
