A return of geopolitical blocs would “push Hungary among the losers”, the communications director of the ruling Fidesz-Christian Democrat alliance said on Friday, adding that because Hungary wanted to be among the winners, it chose economic neutrality.
In a video posted on Facebook, Tamás Menczer said the biggest crises faced by Europe was the war. But the related sanctions, the pandemic, the energy crisis and other crises had also changed the situation. “The one who can adjust to the new situation will be the winner in the future,” he added.
Menczer said Brussels wanted to sever ties between the Eastern and Western economies and favoured a “cold trade war”.
“This is bad for Hungary; the formation of blocs is bad for us, we want to stay out of the cold trade war,” he said, adding that neutrality meant economic cooperation with every corner of the world.
Economic neutrality, Menczer said, would boost economic growth in Hungary to 3-6 percent next year, allowing the government to support small and medium-sized businesses, expand family benefits, double family tax breaks and introduce a range of other measures.
