Hungarian government may give outstanding boost for Hungary’s tourism sector
National Economy Minister Márton Nagy asked Booking.com to start accepting SZÉP voucher card payments for domestic bookings at a meeting with the company’s public affairs manager for the region on Friday, his ministry said. Such a move would be an outstanding boost for Hungary’s tourism sector.
At the meeting with Katerina Shearer, Nagy also asked that Booking.com step up efforts to ensure communication with consumers and accommodations partners is transparent and the company fully complies with regulations and consumer protection obligations. He noted that Booking.com’s payment delays during the summer of 2023 had caused significant difficulties for a large number of tourism accommodations in Hungary.
The government is committed to ensuring Hungarian families’ vacations are trouble free, while also guaranteeing legal predictability for accommodations providers in their dealings with booking platforms, the ministry said.
