Poland’s foreign minister would vote about Hungary’s exclusion from the EU
PM Orbán announced on Friday that the government would like to hold a referendum in Hungary about the EU accession of Ukraine. The result would be binding for the government, and their propaganda already started turning public opinion towards the rejection. Meanwhile, Polish FM Radosław Sikorski said he would like to see the results of a referendum on Hungary’s EU membership.

According to index.hu, Orbán’s plan to hold a referendum about Ukraine’s EU accession met severe opposition in the Polish government, which would fast-track Kyiv’s EU membership to win an ally in the region against Russia. Therefore, Polish FM Radosław Sikorski shared a harsh anti-Orbán tweet on his X page:
“Hungary intends to hold a referendum on Ukraine’s future EU membership. And I would be interested in seeing the results of an EU referendum about the membership of the Orbán-lead Hungary.”
Slovak survey: PM Orbán is the 2nd most trustworthy foreign politician
Based on a new survey cited by index.hu, in Slovakia, people regard Czech President Petr Pavel as the most trustworthy foreign politician. 45% of the residents have trust in him, while 50% answered no. In the second place is the Hungarian prime minister, Viktor Orbán, with 40% and 55%. They are followed by French President Macron and EC President von der Leyen. Interestingly, Slovaks regard President Putin as more trustworthy than President Zelensky. PM Orbán is especially popular among the governing party Smer’s voters (PM Fico’s party).
Hungarian FM Szijjártó says Poland’s government wants killing and destruction
The Polish prime minister and foreign minister are “trampling on the rule of law” in Poland while “lecturing us about what’s in Europe’s interest”, Péter Szijjártó, the foreign minister, said on Saturday.
“They think: continue the war; we think: peace. They think: killing and destruction; we think: create peace,” the minister said in a post on Facebook. He added that US President Donald Trump’s efforts towards peace had a “serious chance” of succeeding.
“It’s a shame that the Polish government, along with the rest of Brussels, is trying to block peace talks. It’s this attitude in Brussels that is isolating the European Union. The vast majority of the world, led by the United States and including Hungary, wants peace, while 26 member states of the European Union, including Poland, voted on Thursday to continue the war…” he wrote.

Be careful what you wish for – as per Poland’s Mr. Sikorski:
“I would be interested to see the results of the EU referendum on Hungary’s membership under Orban’s leadership”.

I would have an EU wide refendum to choose which country should be in the EU – Ukraine or Hungary. Hungary would lose that one.
The Netherlands already had a Ukrain referendum about 8 years ago and the people said “no”. However the Dutch government ignored this result as it did not match their policy. Even more: after this referendum the Dutch government canceled the possibility of referendum completely. So much for “democracy”.

For me the big question is, why on earth is still hungary part of the EU, when according to Hungarian goverment the EU is the worst pro-war, pro-migration pro-LG TV institution ever? if you are not happy in a place, you just leave it silently, but narcissism does not have a cure yet
If you stand to receive a net contribution on 3 plus percent per year from the EU – why would you ever leave? And potentially the loss of free movement of people, goods … Most importantly – how would Politicians cling to power?
Even with young Uni graduates, I have to make them personally plough through the facts, data, statistics, etc. so they understand the magnitude of EU contributions and benefits, know how we came to develop so tremendously since we joined.
Call it de-programming – akin to living in the Matrix …
I see only one end for the EU pushing war with Russia. Little Europe will be a radioactive hole.
I believe only You-Know-Who is “pushing war”? Or are you advocating a more Mr. Chamberlain appeasement approach, to see how that works out? Then, we can really potentially have our very own 1938 moment!
There is an international joke about Poles. Why does it take 5 Poles to change a lightbulb? 1 Pole is needed to hold the lightbulb and 4 to turn the ladder.
There is a reason for such a joke; foremost, Polish people are totally unreliable allies, their opinions changes with the weather.
